Cellular properties of γ-aminobutyric acid neurons in the ventral tegmental area. The neurons are fusiform; however, they are characterized by an anextopic dentrite emerging from the soma. The in vivo intracellular recordings show that the neurons are driven antidromically by stimulation of the internal capsule (A, B) and that spontaneous spikes are associated with an excitatory postsynaptic potential (C, D). Worked done in the laboratory of Steven J. Henriksen, Ph.D.
