The Scripps Research Institute and IAVI Host Leading Scientists Searching for New Ways to Produce an HIV/AIDS Vaccine

WHAT:

International Symposium "Toward a Vaccine that Elicits Broadly Neutralizing Antibodies against HIV." More than 70 leading HIV/AIDS vaccine researchers will gather to discuss recent scientific advances in the quest to develop an AIDS vaccine.

Media Briefing by two experts from the IAVI/Scripps Research team that recently discovered two new broadly neutralizing antibodies to HIV that reveal a previously unknown site on the virus that could prove a good target for vaccine design. They will discuss the implications of their work, which was published in the September 3 online edition of the journal Science, and the research road ahead.

One-on-one interviews with Wayne Koff, senior vice president of research and development at IAVI, and Dennis R. Burton, scientific director of the IAVI Neutralizing Antibody Consortium and Scripps Research professor in the Department of Immunology.
