The Kresge Library serves the information needs of employees of The Scripps Research Institute, Green Hospital, Scripps Clinic, and their patients and invited visitors. Although the Kresge Library is a private library, access to its collections is provided through interlibrary loan networks accessible at most university, medical, public and special libraries.

The present collection has its roots in the Medical Library established with the founding of Scripps Metabolic Clinic in 1924. The institutional name was changed to Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation in 1956, and the library was renamed the Kresge Library in honor of a gift from the Kresge Foundation presented in 1974. The Library collects materials in the fields of clinical medicine, molecular biology, cell biology, chemistry, biochemistry, immunology, and neurobiology. The book collection numbers about 4000 and the Library subscribes to approximately 1,000 journal titles. A non-circulating Graduate Reserve collection is available for use by TSRI graduate students. The Kresge Library is fully automated using the INNOPAC system from Innovative Interfaces, Inc. for the online catalog, materials cataloging and serials control. Bibliographic retrieval is available from databases accessible on TSRI's intranet. Databases include Medline, Agricola, Beilstein, PsycInfo, SciFinder Scholar, and Web of Science. The Kresge Library web sites provide access to electronic information on TSRI's intranet including specialized sites for information on careers and the job hunt, grants, and patents, as well as general reference tools such as Britannica Online.

The Kresge Library staff includes six librarians - the Library Director, the Acquisitions & Collection Development Librarian, the Instruction & Outreach Librarian, and three Reference & Electronic Services Librarians - plus a part-time cataloger for electronic resources, a weekend support person and an interlibrary loan courier. Library staffed hours are 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday; 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday; and 10:00 am to 5:00 pm Sunday. After-hours access is provided via TSRI ID card access.
