The Kodadek laboratory works in the general areas of chemical biology, biochemistry and molecular biology. Currently, our major research foci are:

  1. The development of new methods to monitor and manipulate the human proteome and the application of these techniques and reagents to clinical medicine and basic research.
  2. Understanding the mechanisms by which the proteins involved in the Ubiquitin Proteasome Pathway (UPP) modulate eukaryotic gene transcription.
  3. Elucidating the molecular mechanisms by which the neurohormone orexin regulates sleep and feeding behavior in mammals.

All of these ongoing projects employ a multidisciplinary approach that involves a wide variety of techniques, spanning organic and inorganic chemistry, proteomics, biochemistry and molecular biology. We are funded by grants and contracts from the National Institutes of Health (NHLBI, NIGMS, NIDDK) as well as commercial entities. Many of our projects, especially those aimed at the development of new diagnostic techniques and therapeutic agents, take advantage of the highly collaborative environment at Scripps Florida
