1. How do I know if I am covered under the TSRI Short Term Disability Plan?

Eligible Florida employees include Scientific Staff, Department Heads, Managers, Supervisors, and Support Staff. Research Associates, TSRI Graduate Students, and External Graduate Students are not eligible for Short Term Disability. Eligible employees are automatically enrolled in the STD plan upon hire.

2. Once I apply for Short Term Disability benefits, will I automatically get paid after 7 consecutive days of disability?

If you are disabled for more than 7 consecutive days, you should contact the Benefits Department to start the Short Term Disability application process. Benefits are not guaranteed and a decision will be based on the medical documentation provided to the insurance company.

3. If I am already receiving another type of disability pay such as Workers' Compensation, am I eligible for Short Term Disability?

Yes. However, the amount of Short Term Disability you are eligible to receive will be coordinated with (reduced by) any other disability income.
