Additional Information:
1. Pull a copy of your credit report. You are entitled by
law to receive a free copy from each of the three credit bureaus
(Experian, TransUnion and Equifax) on an annual basis. Their
websites will link you to a site sponsored by them in which
you can obtain a free copy. There are other websites who claim
to provide a free copy of your credit report, but you must
enroll in a credit monitoring service with them in order to
obtain your “free” report. We caution you to utilize
the service setup by the three credit bureaus to ensure you
do not have to sign up for other services to obtain your credit
report.
In order to maximize your ability to utilize free reports
on an annual basis, you may choose to get one report immediately,
another from a different bureau in 4 months and one more in
8 months from the last bureau. You should continue the monitoring
process because some ID thieves are waiting 6-18 months before
using the stolen information. Many identity theft prevention
experts recommend you pull one credit bureau report every
4 months regardless of whether you know of a specific security
compromise.
2. You may place a fraud alert on your account, which will
notify potential creditors that there is an alert on your
account. Many will then take extra steps before approving
credit on your account such as verifying your identity by
calling you directly. A fraud alert is put on the account
for 90 days. However, you may request another alert upon expiration
of 90 days as often as you like. Further information regarding
fraud alerts can be found on the FTC’s website listed
above.
3. If you believe you are the victim of identity theft (because
you find aberrant activity on your report or aberrant information
like a different address) you should immediately call AIG
and request coverage under the identity theft insurance they
have made available to victims. It is TSRI’s understanding
this insurance will continue for 12 months from the date of
your request for coverage. The insurance assists you in restoring
your credit by providing resources and hands-on help to notify
the proper agencies and to remove fraudulent accounts.
4. TSRI takes many steps to protect your personal information.
It is TSRI’s policy to only provide birth date and zip
code information for obtaining insurance quotes. Social security
numbers, TSRI ID numbers and full addresses are never provided
by TSRI in information used to obtain quotes. We do this to
ensure that our employee data is de-identified to the greatest
extent possible. In addition, when it is necessary to provide
personal information such as social security, date of birth
and address it is sent through secure websites as an encrypted
file. This information is given to our healthcare vendors
in order for them to process claims for you in a timely and
efficient manner. Social security number is provided even
though we have TSRI ID numbers because many healthcare providers
(hospitals, physician offices, etc.) still use your social
security number to submit claims.
