Cluster 5

Genes whose expressions are lowest at middle timepoints

Cluster 5 represents genes whose expression is relatively high at birth. The expression then decreases, is lowest during the middle timepoints tested (post-natal days 8-12), and then increases once again. Although many developmental events are occurring simultaneously and caution should be taken when predicting gene functions from expression data alone, these genes are likely to have overlapping functions in neural development and neural maintenance. Thus, many of these genes may be involved in developing the neural retina and retinal synapses and then become required once again to maintain or restore neurons at the state required for continuous function.
