GIVING OPPORTUNITIES

The Mildred Bouwsma Fund

Mildred Kapteyn Bouwsma, lifelong educator made arrangements prior to her passing to establish a fund benefiting general neuroscience research at Scripps Florida.

“Milly” was born in Dorr, MI and graduated from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI. When she walked into a classroom, Frank Bouwsma said, "This is it" and so it was. Milly sat behind him and saw two different socks and said "That guy needs help" and so it was….for 64 years it was.

Milly was an Elementary School Teacher for 37 years. An editorial in the Miami Herald noted "She pours it right into your brain."

The Bouwsma’s moved to Wellington, FL from Miami in 1992 and retired to spend time with their children and grandchildren. Wellington people honked their horns when they saw Milly on the corner of Forest Hill and 441 with her sign. "Please Save America for Grandkids".
