The Scripps Florida Network for Women in Science was established to help build a sense of community among the women at Scripps Florida, to network and receive support, and to create a place for discourse on women’s issues (balancing career and family, selecting a career path, etc).
NWiS hosts monthly meetings, normally on the second Wednesday from 12-1pm. These monthly meetings are designed as informal opportunities to interact with established female researchers and life science professionals, discuss issues related to women in science, or to benefit from professional development seminars and workshops that can help inform and guide one’s scientific career.
Examples of past gathering topics include: Networking 101, Ideas for Non-traditional Careers in the Life Sciences, Meet the PI, Balancing Work and Family, Best Practices in Social Networking, Holiday Potlucks, and Yoga Classes.
In early 2015, we invited and hosted two external female speakers: Dr. Anjelica Gonzalez, Assistant Professor at Yale University, and Mrs. Linda Boasmond, President and CEO of Cedar Concepts Corporation, a chemical manufacturing plant based in Chicago.
