MySci@Scripps 2008 Speaker

Mike Saure

Mike Saure is Research Technician in the Chemistry Department’s Kelly lab.  A native of Woodbridge, Virginia, he received is B.S. in Crop and Soil Environmental Science from Virginia Tech in 2000.  A year later he moved to San Diego and responded to a newspaper advertisement for a lab technician at The Scripps Research Institute.  Since then he has worked for the Kelly lab.  His job duties include expressing and purifying proteins, maintaining scientific equipment, making purchases for the lab, and providing administrative support.

The Kelly lab's central focus is to understand the principles of protein folding and to comprehend the basis for misfolding diseases such that they can develop novel therapeutic strategies using chemistry, biophysical and cell biology approaches.  They concentrate on Alzheimer’s disease, as well as the transthyretin- and gelsolin-based amyloid diseases.

Mike is also a fitness instructor at local gyms and lives with his fiancé in Chula Vista.
