Community Outreach

The Scripps Research Institute’s commitment to research and training extends beyond our campus. We are proud of the efforts by our faculty, staff, and students to improve and sustain the world around us.  Scripps Research has developed numerous partnerships and programs to educate the next generation of scientists and foster an understanding in the general public of the basic ties that exist between biomedical research and human health. Activities include developing instructional materials, speaking to students, educators, donors, politicians, and other community members, and providing educational tours of our facility.

Scripps Research is committed to increasing the participation of female, underrepresented minority, and first-generation college-bound students in the biomedical and chemical sciences. Currently, women, underrepresented minorities, and persons with disabilities comprise more than two thirds of the U.S. workforce, but hold only one quarter of the science and technology jobs vital to our economy.

These community outreach efforts complement the multi-faceted Academic Preparation and Educational Outreach Programs, which target students and teachers at the elementary, secondary, and undergraduate levels.
