Gospel Festival at the San Diego County Fair for the SDFB -- Saturday, June 24

ScrippsAssists was proud to continue its efforts to feed the hungry throughout San Diego County! The San Diego Food Bank provides food for 400,000 people per month across the County who face food insecurity. Of those, over 130,000 are children. The Food Bank's 'Food 4 Kids Backpack Program' provides food for the weekend to elementary school students living in poverty who receive free meals at school during the week but face hunger at home over the weekend when those free school meals are not available. Currently, there are 37 San Diego County elementary schools participating in this program but there are still 15 schools on the waiting list.

Volunteers worked at the Gospel Festival held at the San Diego County Fair on SATURDAY, JUNE 24 to help collect donations in support of this program so more schools and children are able  participate in the program this next school year.

2013 Holiday Adopt-a-Family Campaign & Toy Drive

Once again ScrippsAssists™ coordinated an annual Adopt-a-Family program with our partner Home Start. San Diego County is home to families who struggle daily to meet their children's most basic needs. Too many families live only one event away from crisis through child abuse or violence, a preventable childhood illness, poor access to health care, or the devastating absence of a parent. Many struggle to escape the relentless stresses of poverty and face other challenges that make it difficult to provide a stable, secure home for their children. For over 40 years, Home Start has provided a continuum of care for these families.

For many struggling families, serving a special holiday meal or providing gifts to their children is well beyond their reach. ScrippsAssists’ contributors made it possible for us to adopt 17 families this holiday season bringing a smile to the faces of many children and creating a meaningful holiday for a family in need.
Special thanks also to the Cravatt Lab and Graduate students who collected more than 50 toys through their Toy Drives!

The warehouse setting enabled the Food Bank to showcase their operations while hosting an exciting event for 300 guests.

ScrippsAssists provided volunteers who helped with set-up, check-in, silent auction, BidPal assistants, check-out and clean up. When another volunteer group did not show up, some of our great volunteers stayed past their 8 hour shift to help bus tables, serve dessert and clean up. Great job volunteers! The event raised $141,000 to be used in their hunger-relief programs.

2013 Daffodil Days Campaign
ScrippsAssists™ and TSRI employees have been showing their support for this time-honored, yearly tradition for more than 15 years. This year we raised $1,840 in the final Daffodil Days campaign, sponsored by ScrippsAssists™ for the American Cancer Society (ACS). ScrippsAssists™ has raised more than $40,623 in total toward the ACS fundraising effort.

We thank Leslie Madden, Daffodil Days project organizer for the past 10 years for all of her great work and dedication to the project. The ACS has discontinued the Daffodil Days campaign allowing their staff and volunteers to focus their time and energy more intently on other activities, such as Discovery Shops, Making Strikes Against Breast Cancer and Relay for Life.

2012 Holiday Food Drive

Thank you to everyone who donated to our 2012 Holiday Food Drive benefiting the Jacobs & Cushman SAN DIEGO FOOD BANK! We gathered 1,100 pounds of food in addition to cash donations that will convert to about 2,025 meals.

Food raised from the Holiday Food Drive will be distributed to people in need throughout San Diego County through the Food Bank's 350 partner charities which include: churches, food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, low-income daycare centers, rehabilitation programs and senior centers. In our county, more than 446,000 people live in poverty and face the threat of hunger every day. Nearly a third of this number are children. The Food Bank, in partnership with these charities, feeds over 350,000 people every month. Last year, thanks to the generosity of donors, they were able to distribute 20.4 million pound of food to people in need in our community.

2012 Holiday Adopt-a-Family Campaign & Toy Drive

Once again ScrippsAssists™ coordinated an Adopt-a-Family program with our partner Home Start. For 40 years, Home Start has provided a continuum of care for these families.

Special thanks to the Cravatt Lab who collected toys through a Toy Drive!

For many struggling families, serving a special holiday meal or providing gifts to their children is well beyond their reach. ScrippsAssists’ contributors made it possible for us to adopt 18 families this holiday season bringing a smile to the faces of many children and creating a meaningful holiday for a family in need.

I Love a Clean San Diego’s Creek to Bay Cleanup

Saturday, April 28th from 9AM – 12noon, ScrippsAssists™ volunteers picked up 10 pounds of debris at the Torrey Pines State Beach.

Saturday, September 15th from 9AM – 12noon, ScrippsAssists™ volunteers picked up 12 1/2 pounds of debris at the Rancho Bernardo Park.

The Creek to Bay Cleanup emphasizes the fact that 80% of marine debris originates from inland sources, such as storm drains in urban areas, creeks, and rivers.  ILACSD included 46 inland cleanup sites so that volunteers can tackle trash at its source. More than 150,000 pounds of debris was picked up across the county on each of the cleanup days.
